Wychway Bloodhounds
About Us

Welcome to Wychway Bloodhounds. My first bloodhound, Blue, opened up a wonderful world of scent, trailing and adventure for me in 1979. When Joe and I got our first show dog in 1992, we discovered a whole new world of ways to enjoy working with the dogs. We will be forever grateful to Gil and Sally Sherman for Ch. Witches Onyx, and to Janis Elliot for making the connection. We have been members of the American Bloodhound Club since 1993, as well as active members of our local all breed club, Niagara Falls Kennel Club since 1993.

Ch Witches Onyx or "Toby" was our first show dog, but we caught the habit quickly and fell in love with our next dog "Jessie" (Am/Can Ch Bigwigs Blessed Be Am/Can CD, Am MTI, Can MT, TDI). Jessie was followed by Honey
(Am/Can Ch Button Bay Hern's Blessing CD, MT, RN, Can MTI, TDI, WDHoF, BBHoF) and we knew we'd never go back to regular dogs. Please visit our photo gallery for some of our past and present hounds and their accomplishments.

We were part of Northeast Bloodhound rescue for 13 years, and are now helping with Riverside Bloodhound Rescue (www.riversidebloodhoundrescue.com) to place unwanted bloodhounds in new homes. Rescue taught me a lot about what happens to the basic structure and temperment of the bloodhound when you don't pay attention to proper breeding. Health and structure are a priority for us. If a bloodhound cannot do its job, it will not be in our breeding program. All of our dogs are OFA cleared before breeding and at least tested for trailing instinct if we haven't had the chance to get into a trailing trial.

We don't breed often, but the puppies we have produced have gone on to some shining careers in law enforcement, conformation showing and even obedience. We have produced Champions in both the US and Canada, and Champions of Health for 3 generations. Our foundation bitch is not only in both the American Bloodhound Club Brood Bitch Hall of Fame and the American Bloodhound Club's Working Dog Hall of Fame, she has also produced dogs and bitchs who are in the same Halls.

Joe is also active in the Cowboy Action Shooting Society...we'll have some photos up later that show some glimpses of that exciting sport! (check out www.sassnet.com for more info!)
